Oтец, поэт Валдис Руя, работал директором Оперного театра. Именно поэтому первые воспоминания детства связаны с магией театра. Красные бархатные стулья, на которые нельзя залезть, перила директорской ложы, брыкается, и булькает в зрительном зале в ожидании первого звонка. Бездна оркестровой ямы с грохотом, длинные красивые ноги в балетках на носочках и юбкой как зонтиком рядом с попкой снизу, натертый дощатый пол в тренажерном зале за роялем, буфетная лестница в подвал и стоячий стол с деликатесами. А также живой всю ночь оперный фонтан Нара, которая соблазняет на черном канале в лунном свете, после спектакля идет домой через парки на улицу Заубес со своим большим папой под рукой.
