Curatorial Essay & Exhibition Provenance

Held throughout February 2024 in the expansive 2nd-floor halls of the Bazar't Contemporary Art Gallery in Riga, the solo exhibition 'Family Day (Ģimenes diena)' brought Dags Vidulejs's monumental Divine Comedy works into direct dialogue with everyday families and art collectors.

In the official curatorial manifesto for 'Family Day', the artist articulated his method of 'kneading anthropomorphic forms like a baker kneads dough' — dividing reality into humanity, civilization, urban environment, virtual reality, and nature, just like the primary ingredients of a traditional curd cake.

Works such as 'Avatar Farm / Multi-Family', 'Angels with Torn Wings', 'Riga Opera Mermaids', and 'Superhero Cult' invited viewers to recognize their own social group in the mirror of the canvas and experience catharsis.
