The solo exhibition 'Primum Mobile' at the Jūrmala City Museum marked a historic milestone for the Divine Comedy cycle: the full museum-scale presentation of 30 monumental oil-on-linen canvases structured across Dante's three realms — Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso.
Curated by film director Anna Viduleja, the exhibition transformed the museum halls into a dramaturgical pilgrimage. Rather than illustrating medieval history, Dags Vidulejs used his signature counterpoint method — structuring anthropomorphic masses in 'alla prima' brushwork — to portray the ethical anatomy of 21st-century humanity.
The opening ceremony demonstrated the multimedia scalability of the project: the artist recited Dante's terzinas live in dialogue with Mozart's piano compositions performed by Evelīne Jēkabsone (as Beatrice), while philosopher Dr. Andrejs Mūrnieks delivered the keynote lecture 'What Does Dante Alighieri Mean Today?'.
