Description

Dags Vidulejs presents a dense field of stylized human figures seen mostly from behind, their arms linked in a repeating chain across a vivid blue ground. Pale flesh tones are washed with pink, lilac, and turquoise, while the dark circular heads create a strong rhythmic pattern. Painted in oil on canvas, the surface is luminous and smooth, with figures layered tightly from foreground to background. Billion Graces Save the World 2023 OIL/CANVAS DAGS VIDULEJS Ⓒ is a classical ballet theme. Only Dega and Toulouse-Lotrex drew a lot of ballet at the beginning of the last century. Dags spent his childhood in a ballet environment, as his father worked as a director of the Ballet Theater, while his mother, a musicologist, wrote reviews and books about ballet. Taking Dag’s daughter to ballet classes also had the opportunity to sketch a lot of ballerinas outside of performances. In order to practice painting anthropomorphic forms, it is necessary to make a lot of sketches from nature… Trying to twist the figures into a harmonious rhythm is a Classic figurative painting theme addressed by many artists. The virtuoso technique of artwork, female figures on top with a line and light modulation.

Dags Vidulejs fills the paper with a dense crowd of blue-painted figures, their bodies packed shoulder to shoulder and their arms lifted into repeated arcs above their heads. A large painting fills the frame with a broad spiral of pale blue and pink, crowded with softly outlined baby and child faces and figures. The composition curls inward toward a small central knot, while larger heads open out along the edges, creating a slow clockwise movement across the surface. Thin ochre lines, translucent washes, and mottled pink passages give the work a delicate, layered finish. PRE-MOVEMENT/ PRIMUM MOBILE 200x300 cm ⓒ Dags Vidulejs by Dante Divine Commedy. Exhibition “Primum mobile” Painter Dags Vidulejs’ works for the exhibition “Primum mobile” were created, inspired by the monumental poem “Divine Comedy” by the Italian poet and philosopher Dante Alighieri. “Divine Comedy” Dante dedicated the third part of “Divine Comedy” “Paradise” to his patron – Mr. Cangrande della Scala. In a letter, Dante writes to him: “We can say briefly that the purpose of the entire work and (the third) part is to lift those living in this life out of misery and lead them to bliss. (..) Both the part and the work as a whole are designed for practice, not theory.” Interpretation of Dags Vidulejs Responding to the most important thing that interested him in Dante’s text, painter Dags Vidulejs reveals: “Dante includes his experience, what he has experienced in 100 cantos – in the light of Love, Faith and Hope. In the form of poetry, he outlines a vision of how space, environment, and sectors of the universe through which Dante travels change as his consciousness changes. Gaining experience, changing his attitude, after performing heroic, altruistic, and love-dictated actions, Dante becomes more sighted, he begins to see the Heavens open.” Social context In the socio-political context of recent years, we have become acutely aware of the darkest aspects of existence. The artist’s efforts to interpret Dante’s depictions of the origin of Time and Space (Primum mobile) in painting and to involve us on the path of truth discovery (the path that leads away from misery) currently seem to be very important – both for all of us as a society and for each individual. Dags Vidulejs tirelessly sets himself new tasks in his creative searches. His sensitive nature, cultivated intuition, and rich imagination help him on this path.
